Audio 1 Radio-Phonograph (model TC 40)。

For 100 years, Braun has kept to three important principles, inspired by people: Good design is simple, useful and built to last.

Braun Audio 1 Stereo System Radio-Phonograph Circa 1962 - Designed by Dieter Rams The Audio 1 combines the TC 40 control unit, similar to that used in the TS 45, with the PCS 45 phono module. The system was the first fully transistorised combined system. However, it remained a transitional design between the light weight flexible systems and fixed position HiFi systems of which the Braun programme then consisted. The phono modules remained relatively primitive, fitted with a crystal pickup and with limited scope for adjustment, a small light platter driven by idler wheel and a small motor.

About the Designer

Born in 1932, Dieter Rams is one of the foremost industrial designers of the 20th century. He was strongly influenced by the presence of his grandfather who was a carpenter. Rams’s early awards for carpentry led to him training as an architect as Germany was rebuilt in the early 1950s.

For his entire career Rams has worked almost exclusively for two companies: Braun, the German electrical products company and, to this day, Vitsœ. Today he is cited by a new generation of designers as a key influence on their work that is shaping the 21st century.
