Since 1959 Vitsœ has made long-living furniture, always striving to be better rather than newer.
Vitsœ’s products are designed as true systems with high-quality specification and finishes to ensure flexibility, adaptability, durability and therefore, longevity.
A true system is simple to construct, evolve, repair and dismantle. Most Vitsœ furniture comprises recyclable aluminium, steel and compostable wood that is assembled with mechanical joints (ie, not bonded or welded) to permit repair and end-of-life dismantling.
Importantly, any item is designed and built to last as long as possible.
About the Designer
Born in 1932, Dieter Rams is one of the foremost industrial designers of the 20th century. He was strongly influenced by the presence of his grandfather who was a carpenter. Rams’s early awards for carpentry led to him training as an architect as Germany was rebuilt in the early 1950s.
For his entire career Rams has worked almost exclusively for two companies: Braun, the German electrical products company and, to this day, Vitsœ. Today he is cited by a new generation of designers as a key influence on their work that is shaping the 21st century.
